Great Reads

There is nothing better than to curl up and read a great book. The only thing that can top that is knowing some of the books available to choose from, and knowing that you will not end up with that bad ending. There are so many stories out there where you can invest 95% of the book, and love it, only to have the ending be so bad that you are frustrated with even wasting your time.

How to Avoid the Bad Book

Go from word of mouth. Talk to friends or read review boards that are online to see what books are good, in the genre that you like. For instance, if you are a sappy vampire fan, then Twilight is a hit, but if you need more blood and guts, then Dracula might prove to be on the menu. It all depends on what you love to read, and the type of style you like to read it in.

The other bad book avoidance tip is to check out the critique and reviews from author sites. For instance, most of Steven King is awesome to read, but there are those few where the endings might really have you up in arms. This leads to the next big tip. Before starting a major series, make sure people seem to like the entire set of books. There is nothing worse than getting to that last book of eight, only to find out that the good guy lost, the world ended, and no one got the girl.

The Best Children’s Books

Some of the best children’s books are those that help push children into reading in stronger ways. Scholastic books help children to read based on level while stretching their skills. Books like the Harry Potter series, Twilight, or even Amelia Bedilia are great books for children to read that stretch their reading skills and they entertain their brain.

Some of the good books for kids use their language. Lanuage is important or a child will not be able to use his or her imagination. Some of the keys to look for include word count and word length. For children that are in the sixth grade, there will be multiple words of six letter or more per sentence. This is because a child should be able to comprehend the structure of the blends and then from there gain understanding.

The next thing to look for is to see if there is a series for something available that has a review. Most reading lists at schools will have a selection for a reason. The books on the list are recommended based on the criteria that they will have an entertainment value along with the vocabulary and word strength.

For most readers this is not an issue, but your reader is struggling, there is nothing wrong with finding fun reads that may be a little below their reading level. This will help encourage them to read more and feel comfortable with reading and diving into books regularly.

Trying To Convince Kids To Read Books? Have A Book Based Drama Show In Your House

Kids can be very slippery customers when you compel them to do something against their wishes. They can spend a few hours with a book in front of them without reading or assimilating even a single word. They probably would have found it easier to read the book and finish it off in an hour or two but prefer being stubborn just because they don’t want to read the book.

Well, how can you help your kids read books well? Why don’t you and your spouse put up a fantastic costume drama based on a book that you have read? It can be something as serious as Voldermort’s confrontation with Dumbledore in the Ministry of Magic or can be something as silly as the frog who stuck a candy to his feet to ride the bicycle well.

Once the kid sees you having a lot of fun with your spouse setting up the costume drama and discovers that it is important to read the book to join in your fun, he or she will automatically be motivated. The next step is to encourage your child to perform any part of any book that he or she likes. One smart option is to convince friends of your kids to join you and participate in the drama.

Not only will this keep all neighborhood kids occupied in a constructive manner, it will also give some breathing space for your neighbors to spend time on their own without having to one after kids all the time. Once you understand child psychology and try to exploit it, you will find it very easy to get them interested in books.

Reading for the Journey

The world of books is something that can be enjoyed by anyone able to read. Those that don’t like to read do not always understand the why. They don’t understand why people will stay up until all hours of the night reading. They don’t understand why anyone would want to read on vacation or on the subway train on the way to work. What is hard for some to understand is that reading is a journey. Regardless of what books are being read, it is all about the journey.

For those reading fiction it may be the journey to another place or another time. It may involve reading about adventures that one would be too fearful or simply unable to ever have. Not only does the journey of reading involve the setting of the story, it involves the characters. Characters that become a part of the reader and push them onward to see what fate befalls them.

In nonfiction works the journey is one of knowledge and personal growth. Whatever topic the book is about will impart more knowledge to the reader. It may be books about historical icons, wars, business success, financial planning, or parenting. Whatever it is, the writing creates new thoughts, new ideas and a new understanding about themselves or the world around them. This journey is one that creates awareness that will ripple from one person to another.

Sometimes even those reading forget why they enjoy it so much. They say it’s losing themselves in the fantasy or the fact that they have learned something interesting about themselves or the past. Reading is a journey that has a beginning and an end within a set amount of pages. This is something that must be explored and delved into by those reading so that the author can make a clear picture for them.

Benefits of Reading Nonfiction

A great deal of readers prefer fiction over nonfiction. They claim that they want to escape into a world separate from reality. What some readers do not realize is that reading nonfiction may not seem exciting at first but can be greatly beneficial to their thought process and how they view the world around them. Not all nonfiction books are self-help or business. Some of them document famous people in history, interesting places to travel and entire historic events with little known facts.

What people have to realize is that reading books about people and events from the history of the human race helps to understand why things happened. When we understand more we can learn to keep from making the same mistakes. The old adage “those who do not learn from history are bound to repeat it” comes to mind. This can be true in regards to the lives of individuals. Self-help books have acquired a bit of a bad reputation as of late, however, if lessons are learned from past mistakes then the future can be improved upon. Learning about people from the past that overcame similar, or in some cases worse, circumstances than their own can sometimes spur readers into action in their own lives.

Other nonfiction books that can enhance a readers life are travel books. A great deal of them offer local destinations that aren’t on the normal travel path. These are often hidden treasures just waiting to be explored. No big touristy amusement parks or tour groups are to be found at these locations. Just interesting entertainment and maybe a few nature trails for the outdoor enthusiast. There are even travel books called 1000 Places to Visit Before You Die, as well as one directed at places to take children before they grow up and leave the house.

Right on Target with Coupon Codes

There is a multitude of department stores across America with some that specialize in selling clothing and accessories, while others offer tools and appliances. Still, other retailers offer such a wide variety of so many different products that they are known as a sort of superstore. Even Madison Avenue Books offers coupons so that you can afford to make your books purchases at Madison Avenue Books.

One such super department store, Target, has been making headlines as of late by offering designer collections at inexpensive prices. In 2008, the store made many so-called fashionistas very happy when they introduced a collaborative line of shoes and handbags designed by Sigerson Morrison and Anya Hindmarch, respectively. In 2009, Ana Sui designed a clothing line for the emporium based on the hit T.V. show, Gossip Girl. Earlier this year in 2010, Josh Paul Gaultier shared his vision for a clothing line with the popular store. Zac Posen also excited shoppers by offering an affordable line of gowns, complete with detachable ruffles and a typical Posen attitude. Currently, consumers are thrilled by the collaboration between Target and the British retailer, Liberty of London. Liberty of London boasts fun fabrics and bold prints among the many highlights of their fashion and home collections.

The best part of these designer collaborations and collections is that they are available online. The online shopper can browse for hours without the hassles of shopping at a mall. With online shopping, there are no crowds to fight or tired, achy feet to hamper the excitement of a new purchase – or two. Another benefit of shopping via the Internet is the availability of online coupon codes. Coupon codes can be seen as online coupons, allowing the customer to apply certain codes at checkout for a significant discount off the original (and sometimes sale) price. With the proper coupon codes, the budding fashionista can afford two Posen gowns instead of one. So, kick back, relax, and “window shop” right from your home.
